You didn’t go into HR to become the AI person. But AI landed on your desk anyway, and now you’d love to get it sorted and get back to the people work. Except one question keeps stopping you from signing anything off. Last week I promised we’d tackle it, so this week we do.

I start with why this question feels so personal. It isn’t really about how much you know about AI. It’s about your professional reputation, the trust you’ve built up over years of getting things right, and the fear that one wrong call could undo it. Then I give you the honest answer to the question itself: yes, you probably are missing something. So am I. So is everyone. Nobody has the full picture on AI and nobody is going to get it, because it’s moving too fast.
Once you accept that, the question changes. It stops being “am I missing something?” and becomes “do I know enough to make this decision?” And that one you can answer. I walk you through four quick tests I’d use to work it out, none of which need any technical knowledge at all. And I finish by describing how you’ll feel once you stop waiting to ‘be ready’: the different conversation you get to have with your leadership team, and the way it frees you to get back to the work you came into HR to do.

Knowing that ‘you know enough’ is one thing. But, getting your ‘leadership team to collaborate on the decision with you’, so the decision isn’t sitting on your desk with only your name on it, is another.
